Description

Electric parking brake switch circuit malfunction
Detection condition
•  Electric parking brake control module detects that the signal in the electric parking brake switch circuit is stuck.
Fail-safe
•  When the ignition is switched off, the electric parking brake control module operates the electric parking brake.
Possible cause
Caution
•  When the electric parking brake switch is continuously pulled up/pressed down for a long period, DTCs may be detected. Therefore, always verify that DTCs being detected are due to how the customer has operated the switch.
•  Electric parking brake switch malfunction
―  Electric parking brake switch is mechanically stuck
•  Electric parking brake control module malfunction

ASK CUSTOMER IF ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH HAS BEEN PULLED UP/PRESSED DOWN CONTINUOUSLY FOR 90 S OR MORE
•  Ask the customer if the electric parking brake switch has been pulled up/pressed down continuously for 90 s or more.
•  Has the electric parking brake switch been pulled up/pressed down continuously for 90 s or more?
Yes
System is normal. (Explain to the customer that it is not necessary to continuously pull up/press down the electric parking brake switch to operate/release the electric parking brake system.)
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
•  Visually verify the electric parking brake switch for the following.
―  Interference with surrounding parts
―  Foreign matter penetration in movable parts
•  Is the electric parking brake switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Interference with surrounding parts:
•  Install the electric parking brake switch correctly.
―  If the malfunction recurs, replace the electric parking brake switch.
•  Go to the next step.
Foreign matter has penetrated movable parts:
•  Remove the foreign matter, then go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Clear the DTC for the electric parking brake control module using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the following procedure 3 times or more.
―  Pull up the electric parking brake switch to operate the electric parking brake.
―  Press down the electric parking brake switch to release the electric parking brake.
•  Retrieve the electric parking brake control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the electric parking brake control module.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
