Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
VERIFY CD DISC CONDITION
•  Verify the CD disc condition when the malfunction occurred.
•  Is there any dirt or scratches on the CD disc?
Yes
•  Remove dirt on the CD disc or replace with a CD disc that is not scratched or damaged.
•  Go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
2
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS CD DISC
•  After obtaining the customer's consent, replace with a CD that was not used when the malfunction occurred.
•  Is CD sound produced?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 4.
3
VERIFY IF DATA TYPE OTHER THAN CDDA/MP3/WMA/AAC IS MIXED IN CD DISC
•  Verify the CD disc data content when the malfunction occurred.
•  Is there data other than CDDA/MP3/WMA/AAC data mixed in?
Yes
•  Replace with a CD disc containing only CDDA/MP3/WMA/AAC data and verify the malfunction symptom.
If the malfunction symptom is eliminated
―  System is normal (explain to the customer that the cause was a CD disc containing data other than CDDA/MP3/WMA/AAC).
If the malfunction symptom is not eliminated
―  Replace the CD player, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT CD PLAYER CONNECTOR
•  Disconnect the CD player connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.
5
INSPECT AUDIO UNIT CONNECTOR
•  Disconnect the audio unit connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.
6
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS OPEN CIRCUIT IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUDIO UNIT AND CD PLAYER
•  Verify that the CD player and the audio unit connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (vehicle wiring harness side).
―  Audio unit terminal 2M and CD player terminal L
―  Audio unit terminal 2N and CD player terminal N
―  Audio unit terminal 2O and CD player terminal P
―  Audio unit terminal 2P and CD player terminal R
―  Audio unit terminal 1O and CD player terminal G
―  Audio unit terminal 1Q and CD player terminal H
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
•  Refer to the wiring diagram and verify if there is a common connector between the following terminals.
―  Audio unit terminal 2M and CD player terminal L
―  Audio unit terminal 2N and CD player terminal N
―  Audio unit terminal 2O and CD player terminal P
―  Audio unit terminal 2P and CD player terminal R
―  Audio unit terminal 1O and CD player terminal G
―  Audio unit terminal 1Q and CD player terminal H
If there is a common connector:
•  Inspect the common connector and terminals for corrosion, damage, or disconnection and the common wiring harnesses for an open circuit to determine the malfunctioning location.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
•  Go to Step 10.
7
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUDIO UNIT AND CD PLAYER
•  Verify that the CD player and the audio unit connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harness terminals (vehicle wiring harness side) and body ground.
―  CD player terminal L
―  CD player terminal N
―  CD player terminal P
―  CD player terminal R
―  CD player terminal G
―  CD player terminal H
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
•  Refer to the wiring diagram and verify if there is a common connector between the following terminals.
―  Audio unit terminal 2M and CD player terminal L
―  Audio unit terminal 2N and CD player terminal N
―  Audio unit terminal 2O and CD player terminal P
―  Audio unit terminal 2P and CD player terminal R
―  Audio unit terminal 1O and CD player terminal G
―  Audio unit terminal 1Q and CD player terminal H
If there is a common connector:
•  Inspect the common connector and terminals for corrosion, damage, or disconnection and the common wiring harnesses for short to ground to determine the malfunctioning location.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which is shorted to ground.
•  Go to Step 10.
